Osiris is a major deity in Egyptian mythology, associated with death, resurrection and the judgment of souls in the afterlife. Mythical king of Egypt, he was assassinated by his brother Seth before being brought back to life by his sister and wife, Isis. Having become sovereign of the kingdom of the dead, he embodies the cycle of life and fertility. He is often represented in mummified form, holding the scepter and the scourge, symbols of power and justice. His cult influenced many beliefs about the afterlife in Antiquity. Important fragment of a large statuette representing in relief a right hand of Osiris holding the scepter.
