An Italian carved walnut chest of drawers, Lombardy, late 17th early 18th century.
A chest of drawers of Bergamasque origin, attributable to the workshop of the Fantoni family, dating back to the late 17th to early 18th century. The top is crafted from solid walnut and features an elegant edge carved with stylized egg-and-dart motifs, accentuated by dense geometric carvings on the front and sides. The front is divided into four drawers separated by chains of carved, successive lanceolate leaves. Each drawer is adorned with a raised rectangular frame featuring open egg-and-dart carvings, two elongated cross-shaped panels with the original bronze knobs, and additional horizontally developed panels carved along the perimeter with vegetal motifs. The base is richly decorated with a scalloped apron carved with scales, resting on two supports shaped as elaborately carved scrollwork panels.
