He settled in the Basque Country, where he painted numerous landscapes and portraits. He first studied at the School of Fine Arts in kyiv, before continuing his training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. In 1932, he emigrated to France, where he worked as an illustrator for magazines. In 1939, he settled in the Basque Country, first in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, then in Biarritz. Jiva then devoted himself to painting Basque landscapes, scenes of life and portraits. His work can be admired at the Basque Museum in Bayonne, which has several of his works. Jiva died in 1974 in Biarritz.
