Painting signed lower left "H.D'Estienne" and dedicated to Pierre Claudel... Henry d'Estienne (1872-1949) was a French painter trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, a student of Jean-Léon Gérôme. He made his debut at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1896 and received a bronze medal at the 1900 Universal Exhibition. Initially recognized for his portraits and orientalist work, he turned to Brittany, capturing its costumes and traditions in notable works such as Noce en Bretagne (1904). His Breton work, marked by realism and sensitivity, was exhibited at the Salon and acquired by the State. Rewarded with several distinctions, he received in particular a gold medal at the International Exhibition of 1937 and was made a knight of the Legion of Honor. Good general condition.
