Sonia BORNSTEIN (1907 Warsaw - 1944?) City under the snow Oil on canvas signed lower left 65 cm x 50 cm Zofia (Sonia) BORNSTEIN [1907-1944] is a Polish painter born in Warsaw and who made most of her career in Paris. She exhibited her works in Paris at the Salon d'Automne: 1926 Portrait of a Woman, Portrait of a Young Girl; 1927 The Girl at the Window, Old Quays; 1928 Old Port of Marseille, Maison Blanche. In 1926, she lived in Paris, then in 1927-28 in Montrouge. On October 19, 1929, she participated in the exhibition of modern Polish art in Paris at the Édition Bonaparte gallery. In the same year, she also exhibited at the Mots et Images gallery and Jewish Artists of Our Time (Jüdische Künstler unserer Zeit) at the Salon Henri Brendee in Zurich. In the early 1930s, thanks to the efforts of the Jewish Society for the Promotion of Fine Arts, an exhibition of her works was organized in Warsaw. In the catalogues of the Parisian exhibitions, Sonia's name appears incorrectly as Borstein or Bernstein. The circumstances of her death are not known.
