A rare pair of sconces known as Aux Termes de Femmes, in finely carved bronze with a fine Mercure gilding. The shafts are in the form of women's termes terminating in interlaced acanthus scrolls. The two arms of light simulating the upper limbs of women, in foliage and grapes decoration. Slight variations in the bobèches.
Magnificent French work from the Napoleon III period circa 1850-1870 in the Louis XVI style, similar to the work of the famous silversmith Robert-Joseph Auguste (1757-1801).
A similar model from the 18th century is in the Metropolitan Museum in New York (former Wrightsman collection).
