A George III sterling silver tankard, Peter & Ann Bateman, London, 1791.
An outstanding example of a silver George III tankard by quality Georgian makers Peter and Anne Bateman, son and daughter-in- law of Hester, who carried on the business after her death. Straight sided body with a girdle band and a deep skirt. The domed lid with a beautiful pierced scroll and heart thumb piece and the hollow handle with a traditional heart terminal.

Slight signs of age and superficial scratches. The five hallmarks are present on the side of the tankard. On the base of the lid: the maker's mark, the lion passant, leopard’s head crowned and the date letter.
