Reproducing the signature of CLODION.
This charming terracotta statuette from the late 19th century is inspired by the works of Claude Michel, known as Clodion (1738-1814) and represents a young faun, a mythological creature half-man, half-goat.
A copy of the original terracotta model is kept in the following museums: Cleveland Museum of Art and Houston Fine Arts in the United States, National Museum of Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
It is then accompanied by another figure representing a child Satyress running with a nest. This statuette testifies to the taste of the 18th century for a sculpture in the Rococo style. The subject of child or baby satyrs during Bacchic celebrations often appears in the works of Rococo artists.
Clodion (1738-1814) Claude Michel, known as Clodion is the master of antique statuettes (read the Proantic magazine https://www.proantic.com/magazine/categories/sculptures-sur-proantic/)
He therefore liked to represent characters from classical antiquity in his works.
