Large fossil vertebra of a large marine mammal, of a genus now extinct, affiliated with a whale.
A current gorgonian took this fossil vertebra as a substrate to develop. During storms, the fossils found on the sandy substrate off the coast of Carolina (United States), or a few centimeters under the sand, are rocked by the currents until they run aground on the foreshore.

Geological period: Mio-Pliocene (- 5 to -2.5 million years approximately).
