Pourcieux (Var), 1822 - Le Creusot, 1906
Portrait of a Provençal woman (Arles) in her intimacy
Painting, oil on canvas
Signed and dated 1853
Painting: 46 x 55.5 cm
Beautiful 19th century frame: 57.5 x 66.5 cm
Very good condition, small discreet restorations (see on the back)
History: comes from a family from Provence
Note: Victor Chavet painted several works in Arles in 1853. The blue ribbon of this woman's headdress is rare and testifies to a hair ornament used in the family and intimate sphere. The hand, superb and already impressionist in its touch, is adorned with a ring (wedding ring?). She holds a shirt on her breast evoking the intimacy of the scene.
