Lino Sabattini – “mercury” Coffee Set – Christofle

Tea and coffee service, 4 pieces in silver plated metal, each bearing the hallmarks of Maison Christofle and the Gallia collection, the set resting on a silver plated tray that does not bear the same hallmarks. This service, named "Mercury", was designed by Lino Sabattini and had been chosen in 1970 by President Georges Pompidou for the presidential plane. It was used in the first classes of Air France flights. Lino Sabattini (1925-2016) is a renowned Italian designer goldsmith particularly known for his innovative silverware creations. He worked closely with the architect Gio Ponti and directed the creative workshops of Christofle for 7 years, from 1956 to 1963. His works are exhibited in the collections of international museums such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Each of the four pieces of the Christofle house has been cleaned by a professional goldsmith. The large coffee pot had a small shock which was dented, there remains nevertheless a very light small mark which we report but which is not visible in the photos. Apart from this small mark the four pieces are in new condition without any scratches as can be seen in the photos. The tray which is not from Maison Christofle was also cleaned by a professional goldsmith and although it is very clean it has very light micro scratches from use.
