"Louis XIV Pediment Mirror In Gilded Wood, Early 18th Century. "
Mirror consisting of a mirror frame and a pediment, made of oak wood, the frame mounted with keys, carved wooden decorations with repair and gilding, mercury mirror probably changed, parquet changed. The frame whose high crosspiece is in a stretched arch is decorated with "Berain" decorations with shells and protruding palmettes, all on a background with checkered and striated repair. The pediment has a checkered background, it is partly openwork and is crowned by an acanthus palmette, scrolls and flower buds adorn the background as well as "consoles" in the form of tarred cornices, on two of which rest birds on either side of the pediment. This mirror from a collection in the Champagne region is in good condition with some usual restorations. The gilding has a beautiful appearance. Our opinion: this mirror despite some inevitable wear and tear benefits from a beautiful state of conservation, it offers an interesting ornamentation, with shells, palmettes, birds, Bérain decorations, foliage and flower buds, all these ornaments are found during the Louis XIV style.
