In 1833, the Benziger brothers, Charles (1799-1873) and Nicholas (1808-1864), succeeded their father Joseph Charles Benziger, founder of the Catholic publishing house Benziger in Einsiedeln (Switzerland) in 1792.
From 1837, chromolithography allowed the colored edition of pious images without manual highlights.
In 1887, an American branch was founded in the United States, in Cincinnati.

(1) The altar canon, as its name indicates, was placed on the altar, and turned its back to the faithful during the Latin mass, part of the "Roman rite". The text on the left contains the prologue of the Gospel according to Saint John recited at the end of the mass. The central panel has three columns: Gloria, Credo then the prayers of consecration. On the right, the last panel contains the prayers of blessing of the Water and the Washbasin.
