"Pair Of Lioness And Lion Andirons"
Pair of andirons with a lioness and a lion lying down after Louis-Simon Boizot (1743-1809) and Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843). These gilded and patinated bronze andirons, decorated with fire pots, trimmings and foliage, on tapered feet, feature a lion and a lioness lying down, their mouths half-open, turned inwards. Under each animal, a drape raised by a knot falls from the main part of the andiron. A flaming basin with two leafy handles rises above oak scrolls. Three spinning top feet ending in a sphere and decorated with fillets support the andiron. This pair of andirons is reminiscent of the model created in 1786 for the Salon des Jeux of Queen Marie-Antoinette at Versailles.
End of the 18th century.
