JAPAN - Edo period (1603 - 1868). Complete samurai armor all in suite. KABUTO in wrought iron lacquered in shiny black. SHIKORO (neck cover) with four degrees in black lacquered iron and blue silk braiding (wear), the last degree lined with blue-dyed deerskin. MABI SA SHI (the visor) in wrought iron lacquered in shiny black. DATE (kabuto ornament) imposing in carved and gilded wood and peacock feathers. HAMPO (samurai half-mask) in black lacquered iron. Gorget with three degrees in black lacquered iron and blue silk braiding. SODE (shoulder guards) with six degrees in black lacquered metal and blue silk braiding. Breastplate with three slats in simulating nine in black lacquered iron and blue silk braiding. Arm guards, KOTE, in chainmail and gilded iron plates (wear). KUSAZURI (skirt) and HAIDATE (cuissards) with four rows in black lacquered metal and blue silk. SUNEATE (greaves) in black lacquered iron plates and chainmail. Fairly good general condition, slight losses to the lacquer, oxidation and wear to the braiding. Additional photos and details on request. Sold with its GUSOKU BITSU (transport chests) in black lacquered wood (losses and significant traces of wood-eating insects) and metal (oxidation), struck with a mon close to that of the TOYOTOMI clan, and with its presentation stand. Dimensions of the armor in seated position: 184 x 50 x 46 cm. Notes: In Japan, samurai are commemorated every year, many people and temples often keep such armor for generations.
