"Virgin And Child, Tuscan Painter Of The Mid-16th Century."
A sumptuous green curtain with very fine golden edges acts as a backdrop to this tender and joyful representation of the Madonna who tightly holds her lively son in her arms, in the mood for games and hilarity. He doesn't stay still and takes a very particular position, he's almost about to fall, he slides the fingers of his left hand under his mother's collar, as if it were a grip to hold on to, while with the other he calmly plays with the thumb of his little foot. Joy and pride is expressed by the face of the Madonna who, without hesitation or impatience, smiles and holds him tightly in her arms.
We can assert from a first analysis of style and figurative elements that we are faced with a painting, probably executed in the close circle of the Pistoian mannerist painter Leonardo Grazia (1503-1550ca.) who may have granted the iconographic prototype for the execution on canvas, given the close stylistic coincidences with his important graphic works.
The canvas measures 53cm x 42cm, the measurements with frame are: 61cm x 50cm.
