Pair of Louis XVI Style Two-Light Wall Sconces in Gilded and Chiseled Bronze, circa 1780-1790

Description:

This elegant and decorative pair of two-light wall sconces is a beautiful example of the Louis XVI style, a period marked by elegance, symmetry, and the use of classical motifs. Crafted in chiseled and gilded bronze circa 1780-1790, these sconces perfectly illustrate the refinement and technical mastery of the era's artisans.

The sconces feature beautiful symbolic decor, including a flaming urn finial and a fluted shaft adorned with laurel toruses. These motifs, typical of the Louis XVI style, evoke nobility and purity, values cherished during this period. The chiseled and gilded bronze work testifies to a demanding artisanal technique, where every detail is meticulously crafted to create an effect that is both sumptuous and delicate.

The Louis XVI style, spanning from 1774 to 1792, is distinguished by its return to classical forms and symmetry, in reaction to the excesses of the Rococo style.

Our sconces are a fine example of French craftsmanship from the late 18th century. Their original gilding, though showing some wear, attests to their authenticity and history. They were previously adapted for electrification, allowing them to continue illuminating modern interiors while retaining their old-world charm.

Condition:

The sconces are in fine original condition.

Dimensions:

Sconces of this era were designed to adorn the interiors of aristocratic or bourgeois residences, bringing light and refinement to salons and boudoirs.
