""la Tempérance" Bronze Edition After François Briot"
The number of shots being limited to 12 by the site, additional detailed photographs will be sent on request.

Bronze set called "THE TEMPERANCE" composed of:
1° - the basin whose central medallion presents an allegory of Temperance surrounded by four cartouches representing the Four Elements captioned in Latin AER, AQVA, TERRA and IGNIS. The wing is decorated with eight cartouches representing, on either side of Minerva, allegories of the Liberal Arts also captioned in Latin: GRAMMATIC, DIALECTICA, RHETORICA, MUSICA, ARITHMETICA, GEOMETRIA, ASTROLOGIA, alternating with human masks, animals, various scrolls and falling fruits. Under the navel is the countermark with the effigy of the artist and the mention SCVLPEBAT / FRANCISCUS / BRIOT,
2°- of the ewer of ovoid shape with pedestal and moving handle. The middle part shows in oval cartouches the three theological virtues, Faith, Hope and Charity alternating with arabesque motifs. The upper and lower friezes show griffins and grotesque masks. The spillway and the handle are decorated with a mask and a woman in term.
The initials FB of François Briot are above the middle molding to the right of the lower attachment of the handle, indicated by a colored arrow on one of the photos.
Diameter of the basin: 43.7 cm.
Height of the ewer: 28.2 cm.
French edition from the end of the 19th century with a very beautiful definition based on the model created in pewter by François BRIOT in MONTBELIARD around 1585

Let us point out in passing that the parts of the object "came raw from cast iron" without subsequent chiselling, therefore requiring very high quality molds and perfect mastery of casting techniques
This famous model inspired by the engravings of Etienne Delaune was the subject of reworks by other founders including Caspar ENDERLEIN, his German counterpart, making slight modifications. These were listed in detail at the end of the last century by André Lienhart.
Note that at that time these "borrowings" were commonplace, the offense of plagiarism did not exist.
