Imposing cartel and its base in green horn veneer.
Very beautiful chiseled and gilded bronze decoration decorated with shells, stylized acanthus leaves and allegorical or mythological figures.
At the top is a Putto holding a raised torch. It is a classic symbol of light and knowledge. It could therefore evoke the allegory of time and truth. It is framed on both sides by stylized foliage and scrolls and surmounts the dial. This one in very delicately chiseled bronze decorated with a stylized flower, indicates the hours in blue enameled Roman letters and the minutes in black enameled Arabic letters.
At its base is represented an antique female figure, surrounded by foliage and which appears to be seated on a horse. The horse is often representative of power and movement. It is frequently used to illustrate the passage of time or the conquest of destiny. This woman could therefore represent a personification of time mastering movement.
This central female figure, mounted on a horse, gives the cartel a strong narrative and symbolic dimension, typical of ceremonial works of the Louis XV period.
The cul-de-lamp is surrounded by a heart-stripe frieze in the upper part and is decorated with a central medallion in the shape of a flower, framed by shell and leaves and highlighted with a floral garland.
Each of the edges is marked with falls, always in gilded bronze, representing large beaded, rolled up foliage and shells. The base of the lamp base is harmoniously enveloped in a beautifully carved representation of acanthus leaves, shells and scrolls.
