Alois Kalvoda was a Czech landscape painter, graphic artist, publicist, publisher and teacher. He was one of the most important students of Julius Mařák. From 1888 he studied at the Brno grammar school, but did not complete his studies. In 1892-1899 (with a one-year interruption in 1896/97 due to military service) he became a student of Professor Julius Mařák at the Prague Academy. In 1899 he was awarded the Hlávka Scholarship. In 1900 and 1901 he was awarded the prestigious Hlávka Travel Scholarship for Graduates. He spent time on scholarship in Paris and Munich.
