"Palampore In Painted Canvas From The Indies Coromandel Coast For The East India Companies Circa 1750"
Circa 1730-1750 India for export Rare Palampore in painted canvas from India - Coromandel Coast for the East India Companies around 1730-1750. Very fine mordanted cotton canvas, dyed with plant colors (including indigo and madder) and brushed. Decorated with a profusion of Indian flowers in a garden of paradise with baroque interlacing, close to the "Bizarre" of Lyon. Framed by floral borders with architectural decoration on three sides, highlighted by fine ochre borders added and dating from the same period. The assembly includes several pieces of the same palampore probably reassembled at the beginning of the 19th century. Used as a curtain in the 19th century, the lining is in blue cotton chintz. Very rare micro small holes (see last photo) and some yellowish traces. No tears or large holes. Stable condition having retained beautiful colors. This palampore is part of a pair, the second piece of which will be for sale later. Dimensions: 323 cm x 200 cm
