a secretary with reversed doucine also called cavet, typical of the style of the period.
it has a beautiful front opening with a large flap with a curved movement revealing a sober interior decorated with drawers and offering a worktop whose royal blue leather has been changed.
the flap is supported by original wrought iron compasses.
The lower part opens with two doors revealing a shelf and a lockable chest.
it rests on 4 curved legs, the two of which on the front are decorated with bronze sabots.
the lower crosspieces are beautifully fretted.
the sides and the front are veneered with native wood veneer: walnut, plum and light cherry fillets.
the veneer work on the sides symmetrically follows the movement of the front.
the top is originally in natural wood, which is quite rare on this type of secretary where marble was often found. large drawer in ogee under the top and above the flap. the bronzes of the lock entries are period and all the locks work.
the uprights are slightly beveled with a nice veneer work harmoniously lightening the piece of furniture.
the veneer rests on an oak frame. the color contrast is superb between the blond walnut and the more contrasting plum.
the central motif of the star flap is superb and very decorative.
as it is veneer of native woods we took the option of a more sober waxed varnish than a too flashy tampon varnish.
small restorations of use and maintenance to restore some chips of veneer.
a horizontal crack remains present on the lower part of the lower crosspiece of the flap as well as another vertical one on the middle of the left door.
a work probably from the Grenoble region.
a very beautiful secretary quite unusual in beautiful harmonious proportions and on which you can work on a daily basis.
