This famous sculptor, nicknamed in his time the "Clodion of the 19th century" had an exceptional career.
Coming to settle in Paris at a very young age, Carrier-Belleuse began an apprenticeship with a chaser in the capital, then worked with the goldsmiths Fauconier and Fannières encouraged by the sculptor David d'Angers, he entered the School of Fine Arts then followed courses at the Petite Ecole and exhibited two bronze medallions at the Salon of 1850 which were a great success.
The following year, he was hired by the English porcelain manufacturer Minton China Work, then returned to France a few years later and enjoyed immense fame.
He exhibited regularly at the Salon and distinguished himself by the originality of his creations. He quickly received numerous private and public commissions, particularly for Les Tuilleries, Le Louvre, l'Hôtel de Ville, ...........
