Mid-19th Neoclassical Marble Bust Epicurus

Neoclassical marble bust of the Greek philosopher Epicurus, mid-19th century.
Depicted "as a hermes", it bears the inscription "Epicurus" at the base.
In the Capitoline Museums in Rome, there is a room called the "Hall of the Philosophers": the room contains the busts of poets, philosophers and orators of Greek antiquity whose images, from the Roman age, then from the Rinascimento, decorated public and private libraries, the homes, villas and parks of wealthy and sensitive enthusiasts of the arts and philosophy. The love for this kind of busts experienced a new boom in the neoclassical era, between the mid-18th and mid-19th centuries.
