Captioned in Cyrillic, one side shows the profiles of the emperors of Russia, and the other side represents Saint Isaac's Cathedral in St. Petersburg.
This cathedral is one of the largest domed cathedrals in the world. Its construction had been launched in 1818 by Alexander I.
The medal bears on the reverse the date of May 30, 1858, the date of the inauguration and consecration of this building which would become the center of religious life in St. Petersburg until the revolution.
