Heavy and comfortable Indo-Persian Sarouk, measuring 113 cm x 182 cm Rug in very good condition with a slight moiré effect due to the shiny and soft wool.
This rug dates from the 1980s.
A very durable piece, with beautiful colors, mainly ivory, pale green almost water green, pink and dominant bronze green.
The whole green field covered with flowers and arabesques, supports a medallion justaposé with eight points, accompanied by two small pendants taking the form of a halberd, or fleur-de-lis and four spandrels. The nuances are fresh and the thick and soft velvet is in perfect condition.
The edges are impeccable as well as the fringes having the original length. Knotted in Kanchipuram, Kanchi, one of the seven holy cities of India.
It was the capital of the great Dravidian kingdoms. This city is located on the Palar River in the state of Tamil Nadu in India, about sixty-five kilometers from Madras. This carpet is a beautiful decorative and comfortable piece, the decoration is abundant and beautifully drawn and the wool of high quality. The decoration comes from the Sarough carpets, or Sarouk, the Ecbatana of Antiquity, knotted for the Persian Sarouk in some villages near Sarouk in the agricultural region of Arak. European buying houses have had agencies there since the middle of the 19th century.
Most of these rugs are nicknamed hamadan by merchants, particularly the runner rugs knotted in this region.
These Persian or Indo-Persian rugs remain very popular in the United States, where decorators appreciate the heavy and large luxurious wool pieces.
These rugs have very good resistance to passage.
