Oil on masonite 51 cm x 41 cm unframed signed lower right Louines Mentor representing a Haitian village scene. Sold with Invoice-Certficate. Louinès Mentor was born on November 15, 1936 in Saint-Louis de Sud, Haiti and died in 2018. He attended classes with the French brothers in Verrettes. In 1964, he began painting using Sapolin and a goat hair brush attached to a quill or broom. His paintings of street scenes and religious subjects are reminiscent of 12th century French tapestries and stained glass windows. He progressed and grew as a painter. Mentor usually painted the colorful daily life of Haitians. One of Mentor's later paintings, a rural scene, was chosen for the front and back covers of the March 1972 issue of "Americas" magazine, a publication of the Organization of American States (OAS).
