Jean Cluseau-Lanauve was born in 1914 in Périgueux into a family from the department. It was here that he "met" the arts, pushed by his parents in this direction, before leaving to study them in Paris where he settled. He entered in 1933, to leave shortly before the war, during which he was also taken prisoner in Germany. A training as a lithographer and draftsman will trace his career beginnings, to become in the 50s to 80s, a figure recognized both by his contemporary artists and by a fervent clientele. Although head girl of the post-war Paris school, Cluseau-Lanauve did not neglect his native Périgord. He owns a house there near Les Eyzies where he sets up a small workshop giving him a view of the colors of this land he loves so much. His first painting presented at the Salon des Artistes Français, in 1935, is a Landscape of Périgord. It will also be purchased by the state. This dear Périgord, Cluseau-Lanauve permanently replaces it in his works, which he creates from sketches taken on the ground. Many notebooks of these sketches have been scattered since his death and are now found on the art market, sheet by sheet. His oils, which became cubist in the 1950s, are images with clean lines seeking only to bring out the idealized subject, through luminous facets. Our painting dated 1989, of an imposing format, is quite typical of the seaside that Cluseau produced during the 70s to the beginning of the 90s. Bright lights and a frank touch give a sparkle to the color. Slight shocks to the frame. Possibility of replacing the frame with a black American case for an additional €200.
