JAPAN - Edo period (1603-1868). Samurai tanto. FUSHI and KASHIRA in a suite in wrought iron inlaid with silver and gilded copper depicting a boat in the bamboos and a bird in flight. TSUKA in wood, covered with ray skin, braided with black silk. MENUKIS in a pair in gilded copper depicting coral fishermen. TSUBA in wrought iron and inlaid with gilded and silvered copper depicting a pagoda in a landscape and birds in flight (oxidation), unsigned. KOZUKA in wrought iron inlaid with gilded and silvered copper depicting a phoenix in flight and a branch of paulownia, unsigned. SAYA in wood and black lacquered fabric. HABAKI in copper engraved with oblique lines. Straight blade, regular hamon, straight and very well marked, the tang pierced once bearing a signature on each side. Dimensions: 46.5 x 5.5 x 4.5 cm. Blade length: 41.5 cm.
