"Louis XIV Leather Box For Holy Oils"
Interesting leather box, from the late 17th century, originally used to carry two bottles of holy oils. Rectangular in shape, opening with hinges on the back. Covered in brown leather, enhanced by friezes, fleurons, gilded spandrels. Spring lock, hasp and functional key (posterior) in iron. A little "play" when closing but the system works nevertheless. Bronze carrying handle on the lid. Numerous wear marks on the leather, see photos. Interior covered in chamois leather dyed with indigo, this famous celestial blue, original. Despite the accidents to the leather, this box could be described as being in fairly good condition because it is about three and a half centuries old! Beautiful patina of the leather of course, time making all the difference. Do not hesitate to contact me for more information. Delivery: €15 for mainland France.
