"Foliage, Oil On Canvas By Giran-max"
Léon Giran-Max was a member of the Société nationale des beaux-arts. The Barc de Boutteville devoted a solo exhibition to him in 1898. He painted landscapes of Spain, Brittany, and the South, with strong colors and a vigorous touch. He sought out his motifs mainly on the banks of the Oise and the Seine. From his studio in Neuville-sur-Oise downstream from Éragny where his friend Octave Linet was staying, he crisscrossed the banks of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine as far as Auvers-sur-Oise to capture the light. He was one of the co-founders of the Salon d'Automne and was its treasurer in 1903. He exhibited at the Salon de la Société nationale des beaux-arts and the Salon des indépendants. The latter paid him a posthumous tribute in 1928. Our work is signed at the bottom left: Giran-Max The original canvas was glued onto another canvas stretched on a frame. Beautiful Montparnasse frame.
