Émile Gallé (1846-1904) was a French industrialist, master glassmaker, cabinetmaker and ceramist. From 1867 he was associated with his father's earthenware and glass decoration company. In 1877 he took over the family business and was awarded three prizes at the Paris World's Fair in 1889. In 1894 he built the Émile Gallé establishments in an Art Nouveau style and developed his research into glasswork and created new manufacturing processes. In 1901 he founded the Nancy school and in 1904, upon his death, his widow took over the glassworks business. The Gallé establishments company stopped production in 1931.
