Object description :

"Reliquary Relics 9 Saints: Innocent I / Virgin Mary / Francis Of Assisi / Rose"
The XVIII Century oval reliquary is framed in exquisite Italian filigree work and contains 4 sacred relics:

  • Veil From Our Lady the Virgin Mary
  • Saint Prosper - Martyr
  • Saint Paulina – Virgin & Martyr
  • Saint Ilegible
  •
The relics are shielded with a glass cover and place in a church or temple façade decoration with a triangular roof and Corinthian pillars, all adorned with delicate paperolles folding and rolling ornaments simulating filigree work.
The center of the reliquary holds a hand painted porcelain circular disk depicting St. Francis of Assisi, in his customary brown robe, a saint’s halo over his head, at his moment of apotheosis and before receiving the Stigmata.
On the back of the pendant is an intact wax seal with imprinted crest and threads running through it assuring the seal was not broken.
St Francis of Assisi (1182 – 1226) was an Italian catholic Friar He founded the men's Order of Friars Minor, the women's Order of St. Clare, the Third Order of St. Francis and the Custody of the Holy Land. Francis is one of the most venerated religious figures in Christianity. Canonized by Pope Gregory IX in 1228, Francis is a prevalent subject in art and almost always shown in brown robes and rope tied around his waist.
