Adrien Montagne, born in Saint-Chamond in 1955 and now living on the Roanne coast, "has been breathing since he retired" In 1998, he opened - first in his studio then in Roanne - his well-known painting school, which will welcome hundreds of students, in groups or in private lessons, whose work will be the subject of numerous exhibitions, such as the "Poing en couleurs" at the Espace Congrès. Personally, he runs an art gallery in Vichy and exhibits from Marseille to Paris via Evian, Annecy or Strasbourg at the national level and even in Venice. Pugnacious, persevering, thrilling, he draws again and again. Oils, gouaches, watercolors, pastels will fly to Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, America… In painting, Montagne is a bubbling loner, inspired by the artists he appreciates: JF Millet, Berthommier, Montet… Their influences can be felt in the diversity of his own works and in their fluctuations over time. His mark is always changing; depending on the era, he tests different styles and practices different touches. Initially figurative, his first abstract, “Rouge montagne”, dates back 15 years. He also likes to work with monochromes and flat tints on large formats. A writer in his spare time, he has notably published a collection of quotes that have accompanied him throughout his career, such as: “To be free is simply to be master of oneself”.
