Saint Martin Loynaz of the Ascension – Franciscan martyr of Japan, Abbot & Martyr

Reliquary description
Reliquary from the XIX Century. Safely kept under a glass we can see the relic with its name resting on the lap of a golden Angel in a scarlet background.
At the back of the reliquary, we find the Episcopal’ s wax seal of Cardinal Costantin Patrizi Naro holding the threads together and guaranteeing the authenticity of this holy relic.
History of Saint Martin Loynaz of the Ascension
Franciscan martyr of Japan. He was born at Vergara, Navarre, Spain, and became a Franciscan in 1586 . Martin was assigned to Mexico and Manila, in the Philippines, before serving in Japan. He was crucified at Nagasaki and was canonized in 1862.
