"Tiv Wedding Statue"
Rare wedding statue from the Tiv, Nigeria, which represents a couple of male and female characters, back to back, resting on a sort of stool. The bodies are "muscular", the faces pronate with eyes carved in almond and hollow. The scarifications are present on both characters, they are characteristic of the Benue region (Nigeria). This type of object was carved and offered to the bride and groom to celebrate their wedding. The wood used is dense and heavy. The patina of the object is black, with some shine, it reveals in places the oxidation of the wood. The object is old, certainly from the end of the 19th - beginning of the 20th century. This Tiv statue is authentic and has a very slight regluing at the level of the stool.
