"Ibeji Yoruba Statuette"
Ibeji Yoruba statuette, used in the context of the twin cult among the Yorubas of Nigeria. Here it is a male character wearing a traditional Yoruba hat as well as a pearl necklace at the abdomen and brass bracelets around the handles. The eye socket is represented by inclusions of metal nails. The object has a very deep patina of use, a sign of its antiquity. The style of sculpture is characteristic of the Igbomina area, and more precisely Oke Onigbin in Nigeria. The object is authentic and has no restoration. It comes from the old collection of X. Richer (Paris) and P. Terrier (Paris). Ref: See page 215 of the book Ibeji, Le culte des jumeaux Yoruba de Chemeche.
