He was a student at the School of Fine Arts in Bourges and then in Paris. Born in 1847, Father Jules passed on his vocation to his two sons Jules and Ferdinand, who were his students. Ferdinand's older brother, Jules Eugène, was born on July 11, 1878. A student of Gabriel Maréchal, after an apprenticeship at the School of Fine Arts in Bourges, he became a talented watercolorist. He chaired the Mouciau association until 1939. This artistic association of former students of the Bourges School of Fine Arts organized the Salon du Mouciau. His brother Jules regularly participated until 1933. A landscaper, Ferdinand Chaumeau nourished his painting with his many trips to Creuse, Dijon, Royan, Bandol, but also to Alsace and Berry. Brittany was also a source of inspiration; he painted there in the 1920s, notably in Douarnenez in Finistère.
