Ceramic dish signed Jacques Blin – A rare collector's item

This superb ceramic dish is a work signed Jacques Blin (1920-1995), one of the most emblematic French ceramicists of the 20th century. His instantly recognizable style, mixing soft shapes, cloudy patinas and naive patterns, makes it an essential collector's item.

Description

This dish features an engraved engobe, a technique dear to Blin, where the patterns are incised into the surface before firing. Here, the stylized animal decoration of a horse with poetic shapes perfectly illustrates his visual language. Remarkable patina work: The slightly grainy material effect and the cloudy finish in green and black tones are typical of the artist, giving the piece a dimension that is both archaic and contemporary. An authentic signature: The dish is signed under the base, confirming its attribution to Jacques Blin, An exceptional decorative object: Thanks to its balance between modernity and primitive influences, this ceramic fits just as well into a designer interior as into a 20th century art collection.

About Jacques Blin (1920-1995)

An aeronautical engineer by training, he turned to ceramics after the Second World War. From the 1950s, he developed a very personal style characterized by refined forms, cloudy patinas and naive decorations engraved freehand. His work is often inspired by rock art and ancient civilizations, giving his pieces a timeless appearance. He uses a slip engraving technique, where the designs – animals, stylized characters, abstract patterns – seem to float on the surface. His workshop, active until the 1990s, has left its mark on several generations of collectors and lovers of modern ceramics. Today, Jacques Blin's works are highly sought after, both in France and internationally, and are featured in many private collections and museums dedicated to 20th century decorative arts.
