BISMOUTH Maurice (1891-1965)

"Composition with fruits and oriental objects"

Oil on canvas,
Signed lower right,

Beautiful work by the Tunisian painter Maurice Bismouth which represents a composition with fruits (oranges, lemons) and vegetables (radishes, cabbages) decorated with oriental objects.
The artist has succeeded in faithfully transcribing the colors of the fruits and vegetables in his composition.

We can compare our painting to another similar composition that went on sale at Million on December 19, 2022.

Born in Tunis, Maurice Bismouth studied with Jules Adler, Auguste Pinchad and Léon Bellemont in Paris. He exhibited at the Salon des artistes français from 1912 to 1930.
He also exhibited regularly in Paris and Tunisia until 1960.
He focused on depicting Jewish life in Tunisia in particular through synagogues and portraits of rabbis.
He regularly stayed with one of his daughters in the United States and died in 1965 in Los Angeles.

Dimensions: 50 x 61.5 cm without frame and 58 x 70 cm with its original wooden frame.
