He was a painter, draftsman and graphic designer. Studied at the Academy of Bruges (1933-1935) and at Sint-Lucas in Ghent. Worked for a year and a half under C. Permeke. Initially worked in the dark atmosphere of Permeke, but from around 1950, his palette gradually lightened. Landscapes, still lifes, nudes, portraits. Away from expressionism. He was influenced by fauvism. Loved the hard colours and beautiful contrasting surfaces. Worked with the palette knife rather than the brush. This quest for sharpness and clarity of forms and colours eventually led him to use pure colours. Second for the Prix de Rome in 1940 and 1943. Participated several times in the Aport exhibitions. In 1945 co-founder of the Jeune Peinture Belge. However, he resigned from the group in 1947. Teacher at the Hoger Instituut in Antwerp from 1963 to 1979. Work in the Museums of Antwerp, Brussels, Ghent, Bruges, Deurle, Liège.
