Gilded wood frame Jean Camberoque (1917 to 2001) was a painter, engraver, ceramist, sculptor and illustrator based in Carcassonne, his hometown. He started painting in 1939 and was spotted by the poet Joë Bousquet. Through his intermediary with the surrealist artists of this period, Jean Camberoque sheltered Hans Bellmer, a German refugee painter, during this troubled period.
