Hans Bellmer, born March 13, 1902 in Kattowitz and died February 24, 1975 in Paris, is a Franco-German painter, photographer, engraver, draftsman and sculptor. He is one of the major artists of surrealism. All his work is imbued with a lively eroticism. Bellmer liked to explore fragmented or metamorphosed bodies, often in a quest for disturbing eroticism and reflection on bodily identity. The curved lines and the general composition recall his obsession with distortion and emotional complexity.
This engraving is part of the series entitled "Unterweisung der Sexualität" 1974.
