"Pewter Basin With Cushion, Salignac, 18th Century"
SALIGNAC. Bedpan, in pewter and with cushion, Bordeaux, 18th century. Pewter, wood, straw and leather; total diameter: 38cm, and 50cm with the handle. Rare and very original model of a bedpan in pewter, signed by Salignac in Bordeaux (pewter hallmark common to the name of Salignac), covered with an ingenious system of removable cushion in wood, straw and skin. On a classic round basin is mounted, using four pivoting fasteners, a wooden frame enriched with a straw cushion covered with turned skin for a more pleasant and comfortable seat. We were unable to find a similar model in the literature on medical pewter. Small tears and losses to the skin of the cushion, otherwise very good original condition.
