Important Sarab gallery called "loafers" hand-knotted in a solid wool in Iran, Persia from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century.
This magnificent model measures 103 cm wide and 455 cm long.
It is a type of Persian carpet knotted in the city of the same name, Sarab or Serab, about fifty kilometers from Ardebil.
The decoration has a very strong Caucasian inspiration, that is to say, rectilinear and geometric.
Its most widespread pattern consists of rows of diamonds on a plain background, generally "camel hair" color.
One of the particularities of its carpets is that the outermost border is of a solid color similar to that of the background of the carpet.
Few regions specialize in the production of carpets with this type of unique format.
Serab has made it its specialty.
This city is located in the northwest of the Iranian region, it is also its capital.
She therefore produces these galleries in particular :
the "Loafers". The knotters use camel hair or colored sheep's wool for the field.
This type of Persian carpet has a much longer lifespan than others, which makes them wonderful carpets for long corridors.
It is thanks to the production of a resistant wool pile and the Turkish knots used that these carpets are difficult to surpass in resistance.
Their magnificent and unique design with colored camel hair in the background combines grandiosely with any type of furniture.
The figures are repeated hexagons, sometimes interspersed with diamonds.
