Miniature on ivory attributed to Mansion, probably representing the portrait of a Polish general of division, lancer, Empire/Restoration period. The miniature is in perfect condition and executed with great finesse. Mansion, André-Léon dit Larue, painter in miniature and on enamel (1785-1834), pupil of his father, Jacques Larue and of Jean-Baptiste Isabey. During the Restoration, he worked at the Sèvres factory. Exhibited at the Salon in 1808, 1819, 1822 and 1834. Mansion was one of the best miniature painters of his time and examples of his work have appeared in all the major retrospectives on the miniature. He executed official portraits of the Emperor Napoleon I, of the Empress Marie-Louise, and during the Restoration, of the Duke of Bordeaux, all after models of his master Jean-Baptiste Isabey. His clientele included senior officers of the imperial army, but also members of the English and Russian aristocracy. Attribution label on the back of the miniature.
