"Standing Nude By André Derain 1880-1954"
Very nice drawing by the great painter André DERAIN Pencil drawing on paper measuring 30cm x 19cm plus frame 50cm x 40cm studio stamp bottom right Provenance KNAUBLICH sale in St Germain en Laye in 2002 (sale stamp) At the Pantheon of modern artists, André Derain (1880-1954) found a place of choice. This friend of Vlaminck, very quickly noticed by Matisse then engaged in Montmartre in the avant-garde group of Max Jacob, Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque and Guillaume Apollinaire, has especially marked the history of art by his "fauve" creation. After the war of 1914, his rejection of cubism led him towards a classical research and less innovative proposals. It is his period with the bright colors of fauvism which is the most sought after on the art market. From 1935 until his death, André Derain lived in Chambourcy in the Paris region with his wife, Alice. She did not give him any children, but his mistress, Raymonde Knaublich, had a natural son, Boby, who was recognized by the painter. Boby, who died in 1992, was in possession of three-quarters of his father's studio. His mother inherited it. She died in turn in 2001, apparently without leaving an heir. free worldwide shipping
