Very good condition, dimensions: 1 m 13 high X 86 cm Subject listed in the catalogue raisonné page 236 n°369 Louis Toffoli was born in 1907 to an Italian father and a Slovenian mother. The artist lived most of his life in the Paris region on the banks of the Marne in Charenton-le-Pont. His works are exhibited in museums around the world: in Brazil, Germany, the Netherlands, Morocco, Israel, and the USA. In 1930 he became a model maker for the famous fashion designer Denis Kalman. From 1935, Louis Toffoli exhibited his works in various salons and took part in competitions. He won first prize in the competition organized by the Ministry of Colonies in the same year. He also received second prize in an international competition. Then a second prize organized by the League of Nations. Then other prizes followed, which rewarded his great talent. Louis Toffoli is described as a great master of light, he plays with transparency and shapes, his painting is powerful and very poetic. His colors are warm like the Italian sun and pure without artifice. The artist's three favorite themes: professions, travel, motherhood. He used several working methods to enhance his art: posters, painting, lithography and tapestry. He called himself a post-cubist. Five or six books are dedicated to him. Jacques Chirac, President of the Republic, awarded him the Knight's Cross of the Legion of Honor in 1987. Some of his paintings can be seen at the Galerie Perahia, 24 rue Dauphine Paris VIe. Louis Toffoli died on February 18, 1999 in Créteil.
