"Saint Louis De Gonzague In Prayer - 19th Century "
A wooden statue carved in the round, polychromed and gilded, it is placed on a base, also in wood. Stripped down and luminous, our character is simply beautiful. He professes Humility through meditation. His tenderness is touching and his realism spoke to me. Dressed in a black cassock and a white surplice with gold borders, he wears a trilobed cross on his heart.
Saint Louis de Gonzague (1568-1591), our Jesuit saint is thus often represented in the habit of a young cleric or acolyte, holding a cross as a sign of his piety.
Dimensions of 97 cm by 28 wide and 20 cm deep.
Used condition - some losses to the polychromy - restoration to the face.
