Object description :

"Mid-century Cylinder Desk, Parisian Work, Louis XV Period. "
This elegant piece of Parisian cabinetmaking furniture is a work from the end of Louis XV, around 1770, marked by the Transition Louis XV, Louis XVI style, built on an oak and conifer frame, it is veneered on all sides with rosewood in frames of green-tinted fillets "with Greek connections", gilded bronze ornamentation mainly marked by the neo-classical. Resting on arched feet, the belt opens with 3 drawers, the central drawer being wider, this set receives the secretary which opens with a rigid cylinder, once opened we discover a pull that is the entire width, this slides forward with a stop and offers a beautiful writing surface, the bottom consists of a paper holder with 4 drawers, one of which has a space for an inkwell. Visible on all sides, this desk is a mid-level piece of furniture, which gives pride of place to rosewood with effects obtained thanks to the different sawing and connection techniques, between cross-grain curling obtained thanks to a cut parallel to the grain of the wood and butterfly wing connections (a favorite motif of the cabinetmaker Pierre II Migeon) obtained thanks to an oblique cut to the grain of the wood. It is presented to you in beautiful condition, beautiful colors of the wood enhanced by a French polish, the whole works very well, the leather is old with a beautiful patina, the locks are period and work with an old key with a bronze head. Our opinion: This "bureau à panse" (term used by Boucher fils) whose stamp is completely illegible also bears the Jurande hallmark, JME of the Parisian master cabinetmakers. This work is similar to that of a Parisian master cabinetmaker such as Nicolas Petit (1732-1791; received master in 1761), by his careful work and especially the selection of rosewood veneer, with a splendid butterfly wing connection work carried out on the front of the piece of furniture, and a great complexity on the cylinder. This piece of furniture also has the great interest of being finished on all its faces, which has the great advantage of being able to be placed at any point and not only along a wall as is often the case.
